Welcome to Kamuli District

Kamuli District is one of the largest and most vibrant districts in Uganda’s Busoga Sub-region, located in the eastern part of the country. The district headquarters, Kamuli Town, serves as the administrative, commercial, and social center, providing essential services to residents and surrounding communities. Kamuli is strategically positioned with road connections to Jinja, Iganga, Buyende, Luuka, Kaliro, and Kayunga, making it an important gateway for trade and transportation within eastern Uganda.

The district is widely recognized for its rich agricultural potential, with farming being the primary source of livelihood for the majority of its population. Fertile soils and reliable rainfall support the cultivation of crops such as sugarcane, maize, rice, cassava, sweet potatoes, beans, bananas, and groundnuts. Livestock rearing, poultry farming, and fishing also play a significant role in boosting household incomes and contributing to the local economy. Agricultural trade has encouraged the growth of markets and small businesses throughout the district.

Kamuli is home to a diverse and welcoming population, predominantly from the Basoga community, who are known for their rich cultural traditions, hospitality, music, dance, and craftsmanship. Traditional ceremonies, local cuisine, and cultural values continue to shape the identity of the district while promoting unity among its communities.
